I've been fortunate throughout my educational life, both in theatre and high school, to have teachers that understand that Shakespeare must be done, rather than just read. I love playing with text that's persisted for 400 years. Every year as I continue to grow as an actor, I reread the texts and find new meaning and new emotion, allowing me to play with familiar text in new ways each time.
I'm fortunate to have had many opportunities to furhter my education with Shakespeare by teaching it to others. I've taight summer camps to teens at Bard on the Beach in Vancouver, and I've taught in a high school setting as well with teens on an immersive Shakespeare residency. I'm constantly amazed and encouraged by these young actors who start by saying "this is impossible to understand", to finding wonderful ways to understand and tell the story they're own way. It's easier than you think.
